- Many older adults have a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. The Person County Senior Center and Extension Office are joining forces in May and June to offer the “Matter of Balance” 8-week series. The program will be held Monday May 5 – June 30 (skipping Memorial Day) from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Space is limited to 15 participants. Sign upstarts NOW! If you would like to register, please call the senior center at (336)599-7484. Participants will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, identify common factors that contribute to falls, make changes to reduce their fall risk at home and exercises to increase strength and balance. Don’t miss out – join us! .
- Our next Diabetes Prevention Program is set to start in July. Starting Thursday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m., we will be hosting Information Sessions to help provide more information on this program and to see if you qualify. You only need to attend 1 session (and it does not commit you to anything). You will simply learn about what is involved with the next Diabetes Prevention Program that starts in July. - Join us on Tuesday, May 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the Person County Auditorium for our monthly Lunch N’ Learn focused on “There is No Health without Mental Health”. We need to learn how to build boundaries, nurture our spirit and relationships, deal with burnout, and improve our overall wellbeing using the 8 Dimensions of Wellness. Cost is $5 to attend and is due to the Extension Office, Room 123 by May 9.
- The Young Zion Greenwood EVA Club in Granville County is hosting a Tea Sip party at the Extension Office on Tuesday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Granville County Extension Office at 125 Oxford Outer Loop Rd. . Wear your hat, pearls, lace, gloves, and chucks to this party. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from an EVA member.
- Join us virtually on Tuesday, May 20 at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) as we learn how to “Fry It Up: Air Fryer Essentials”. Air fried foods have fewer calories from fat than foods cooked with traditional methods, such as frying. Air fryers use circulating technology to produce crispy foods. They have many benefits, such as easy to use and clean, energy efficient, cooks a variety of foods, fits into any kitchen, and quick, healthy meals. Register at go.ncsu.edu/fryitup
- Learn how to stretch your food budget in 30 days. On Thursday, May 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the South Granville Public Library in Creedmoor, we will host a workshop on how to “Eat Right When Money’s Tight”. We will discuss meal planning, shopping tips, supermarket savings, and other strategies to help reduce your food costs all while purchasing healthy foods.
