4-H Clubs in Person County

Welcome to Person County 4-H! 4-H is one of the greatest youth development programs in the nation. In fact, with millions of youth involved nationwide, 4-H is the largest informal education program in the United States.

4-H is the youth development outreach of the Land Grant Universities, Cooperative Extension, and USDA. It is made up of a community of young people learning life skills who are supported in this developmental process by caring adult leaders. 4-H'ers are actively involved in educational projects that are fun and that use quality curriculum incorporating the most current research and knowledge available through the Land Grand University System.

4-H is open to all youth ages 5-18 (as of January 1st). Youth who wish to participate in 4-H club meetings, programs, contests, and events must be registered in 4-H Online. Active and returning 4-H'ers must re-enroll annually each January. Consult the NC 4-H Online Resource Page

Here in Person County, we currently offer three 4-H clubs.

4-H Equine Club

Ever wonder what goes on in a 4-H Horse Club? It’s a lot more than just time in the saddle. Our members are building life skills from the ground up! Here’s a look at what we do:

  • Showing & Competing: From Western Pleasure to Gymkhana, we test our skills in the ring and practice top-tier sportsmanship.
  • Hippology & Quiz Bowl: We’re students of the horse! We dive deep into anatomy, health, and nutrition to become true experts.
  • Presentations: Confidence starts here. Our members learn to speak publicly and teach others about their passions.
  • Record Books: The "business" side of horses. We track expenses, health records, and personal goals to learn responsibility and animal husbandry.

Whether you have a horse in the backyard or just a dream in your heart, there’s a place for you in 4-H. 🍀

Homeschool Club - NEW (enrollment starts Jan 1, 2026)

Club Leaders:

  • Selma Barker
  • Amara Ham

Club will consist of biweekly daytime meetings that will be for 2 hours. This clubs goal is to be in addition to your homeschool curriculum and will cover whatever the youth desires to focus on learning from electricity, cooking, sewing, STEM projects, etc. This club will also focus heavily on public speaking, presentations and creating record books. We strive for students to participate in 4-H local, district, regional and state competitions/programs. (Lots of opportunities for scholarships for those looking for college resume builders)
