Chartered 4-H  Clubs and Groups:

  • Clover Explorers 4-H Club – General interest 4-H club for younger children with different topics each month. Meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month, 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Ag. Resources Center. Ages: 5-10. Leader: Lisa Ortiz, Lortiz@catawbacountync.gov
  • Kicking Clovers Martial Arts Club  – meets on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. at the Agricultural Resources Center. Each meeting starts with a short 4-H business meeting following by Taekwondo instruction with a trained instructor. Ages: 5-17. Leader: Ronnie Hicks, dohickle03@gmail.com
  • Hickory STAR Explorers 4-H Club –  General interest 4-H club with different topics each month to help youth explore different interests as they learn about 4-H. Meets monthly on a Friday evening of the month at St. Luke’s Church in Hickory,  Leader: Jessica Stamey, jessica.r.stamey@gmail.com.
  • Its ElectricLearn some basics of electricity as you work through the Electric project books with hands-on electrifying activities. Turn in your completed project book for a chance to win a FREE trip to 4-H Electric Congress. Meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the Agricultural Resources Center.  Leader: Sue Stulpin with Josiah Florez (teen leader).
  • Amazing Circuits Robotics –  Meets on 3rd Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m. at the Ag Resources Center. Learning about robotics basics using Lego EV3 Robots. Ages 10 and older. Leader: Jeff Kiefer
  • Catawba County Youth Council–   Students representing each High School work on projects and participate in citizenship/ leadership programs. Meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Advisors: Donna Mull and Siobhan Leondorf, Catawba Co. Government staff. Apply using the online application  or the printed  Youth Council application or contact Donna_mull@ncsu.edu or call 828-465-8240.
  • Top Shots Shooting Sports Club – Meets at Catawba Valley Rifle &Pistol Club on Wednesdays evenings. Offering shot gun, rifle, archery, and muzzle loading. Accepts new members at the beginning of each year. All members are required to complete NC State Hunter Safety course. Organizational Leaders: Emily Kanupp and Tarah Steele. Shooting Coaches: Ronnie Hicks, Johnny Sigmon, Tony Mirvosky,  and Mark Sigmon. Learn more about NC 4-H Shooting Sports. 
  • Catawba 4-H Equestrians –  Meets 1st  Monday  of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Mt. View area. Members participate in showing & learning about horse topics. Leader: April and Brian Bean, sweetpeasgat@gmail.com
  • Catawba 4-H Livestock Club – Members participate in raising & showing animals, while learning about animal science and agriculture topics. Meets the 1st Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Center. Ages 5 and older. Leader: Alisha Lidke, 828-217-2551. Club Advisor: Carson Johnson, Livestock Extension Agent, cmgillel@ncsu.edu
  • D.I.G –   Meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the Agricultural Resources Center. For youth ages 5 &older. New members are welcome. Program topic focus on gardening, junior master gardening, farm to fork (learn food prep with garden vegetables, fruit, herb, etc), nature, agricultural science, and more. Leader: Sue Stulpin, catawba1469@yahoo.com
  • 4-H Poultry Team – Seasonal group working learning about all things poultry as they prepare for the state Poultry Judging and Avian Bowl contest in July. The contest is held in July at NCSU. Ages 8 and older. Team coaches: Robyn Townsend, Leah Livingston, and Tabitha Yates.

School Club:

  • Juntos 4-H Club Clubs meet at St. Stephens High School, Challenger, and Arndt Middle School. Programs on preparing for college, leadership, STEM,  and community service. Homework help and snacks, too. Families/students also participate in bilingual Juntos Family Nights and Academic Success Coaching. Contact: Holly Ellwanger, Juntos Coordinator, hpellwan@ncsu.edu.
