breastfeeding

Many mothers may have questions or concerns about breastfeeding their babies but do not have access to someone that can guide them. You are invited to come and learn lactation coach skills that will enable you to be a resource for mothers. The Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH) initiative is part of a statewide collaborative that includes a partnership with the Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch, the UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Department of Maternal and Infant Health, Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute as well as additional local and regional staff of the Division of Public Health. The initiative addresses three aims: (1) improve birth outcomes, (2) reduce infant mortality, and (3) improve the health status of children ages birth to five.

In partnership with the Richmond County Health Department and the ICO4MCH initiative, N.C. Cooperative Extension – Richmond County Center invites you to register for the Lactation Coach Train the Trainer class on Friday, July 30, 2021, from 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at N.C. Cooperative Extension of Richmond County office, located at 123 Caroline Street, Suite 100, Rockingham, NC. During the training, you will learn research-based techniques for successful breastfeeding and receive the educational tools to teach others. The course will be taught by International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Tammy W. McNeil. No prior experience is required. Additional topics discussed include Maternal Mental Health and Postpartum Depression. A boxed lunch will be provided. A certificate from the UNC Lactation Program will be awarded upon completion.
