Crop Report for Week of April 11, 2021

— Written By

This week insect moth numbers are rising again – tobacco budworm and black cutworm moths are on the rise. These moths fly in every week and numbers can increase or decrease according to the weather. Target spot is being found in greenhouses due to sanitation issues with trays and high humidity – get plenty of airflow and if it is spreading, use Quadris at the label rate for your greenhouse. There is a little corn being planted, usually here in the Piedmont Region – after April 15 is the frost-free date. Start looking for cereal leaf beetle in wheat as they can damage wheat, but must have high counts in the field to warrant spraying. Again, scout fields see what is out there and what does not look normal.
