Crop Report for September 9, 2020
Army worm moth flights are way up – keep an eye on everything in the next two weeks from army worm in hemp to fescue, soybeans. Tobacco harvest is progressing well – harvest is all over the board, from light to very good, and tobacco pricing has been pretty good for organic and good flue cure. Corn harvest is going well and early planted corn is being harvested. Corn took some hits this year from frost damage, too much rain, then extreme heat. Soybeans again have not been harvested, but are all over the board on yield potential. I am again seeing stem canker in soybeans and a few other late-season diseases. I am seeing late-season fusarium in hemp and die back – not much can be done about it. With hemp, one week looks good, next can be full of disease. Still need to scout fields coming down the stretch still issues that can impact crops!
