Crop Report for July 24, 2020

A little relief on temperatures at the end of the week but crops severely heat stressed – everyone was watering tobacco. Heat stress affected corn, soybeans, and pastures. Very little rain, but maybe some today. Stinkbug counts are up and could be affecting soybean blooms and small pod sets. With plants under stress, bugs can be worse and do more damage because of no moisture, stunted growth, and slow recovery due to plant shut down. There has been disease starting in tobacco with the heat stress hitting hard and fast. Too many extremes this year – too much rain early and too much heat early. Scout your fields see what is out there!
