FSA has a Food Assistance Program for farmers – payments to farmers due to coronavirus issues. Call the local FSA office to get details. Crop week was wet with some drying for tobacco pegging due to a freeze and heavy rains. Wheat is struggling with wet weather issues and disease but some wheat is made low test weights may occur due to wheat the is down in the field and disease. Corn is finally coming out of cool weather but still has a yellow cast due to a lack of nitrogen and wet soils. Insects are still up. Be scouting for stinkbugs now in the young tobacco seedlings and small corn! Soybeans are coming up – one issue is with hard rains, the soil becomes very crusty and will break soybeans off at the neck trying to get through. Be scouting for insects, emergence, and disease in your fields!
