If you grow hay for your own animals or to sell to others or if you graze any type of livestock, then you need to mark Thursday, April 21 on your calendar. Some forage plots have been planted at the Blackard Farm, located at 488 Blackard Rd, off of Flat River Church Rd, just south of Roxboro. There are two varieties of fescue, two varieties of orchardgrass and three annuals – oats, wheat and triticale. This will be an opportunity for you to see these grasses and how they have performed in Person County. Planned presentations include grazing management, weed ID and control, using electric fencing for rotational grazing and incorporating annuals into your grazing plan. Vendors will be on hand as well with equipment and items to use in your pastures and hayfields. The field day will start at 4 pm and should conclude around 6:30 pm. There will then be a hamburger supper. There is no cost to attend, but please RSVP to the Extension office at 336-599-1195 so we can better prepare for the meal. If you don’t call, you may not eat.
